Coca-Cola and Hockey Day in Canada

Well, it's that time of year..time to dust off the old collectible Coca-Cola cans and start decorating. What? You don't decorate for Hockey Day in Canada? You got anything better to celebrate on Feb 12th? I didn't think so!

So grab your hockey jersey, a six-pack of Coke, and let the games begin.....

As both a hockey fan and a Coca-Cola fan, each year I grab my Canadian NHL Jersey Coca-Cola cans and put them on display, right where the HDIC festivities will take place. This year, I thought I'd share them with you!

In order of the team match-ups being played on Saturday:

The Battle for Middle Earth:     Edmonton Oilers VS Ottawa Senators

My prediction as to who comes out on top......

Eastern Confrontation:      Toronto Maple Lafs vs. Montreal Canadians

And the winner will be...

The Western War:      Vancouver Canucks vs. Calgary Flames

And the victorious one will be:

I don't actually remember what year these cans are from, and the Great Google Gods weren't much help this time...so if any Coca-Cola collector out there knows, let me know. I love my Coke memorabilia, but sometimes I just don't have all the answers!

And my final prediction for Lord Stanley's treasure is.......

Enjoy the day, enjoy the game, and Enjoy Coke!

February 8th - Boy Scout Day in America

Boy Scout Day celebrates the birthday of Scouting in America. On February 8, 1910, Chicago publisher William Dickson Boyce filed incorporation papers in the District of Columbia to create the Boy Scouts of America.

Here in Canada, we don't have the same Boy Scout Day, but the Scouting movement all over the world does celebrate Lord and Lady Baden-Powell's birthdate on February 22.

To help celebrate the Scouting movement this month, I've posted a few pictures of some special commemorative collectible Coca-Cola cans from some of the past Jamborees held in Canada. Anybody else have some pictures they'd like to share?

1985 Canadian Scout Jamboree in Guelph, Ontario

The aluminum they used back then sure was a lot heavier! Also interesting to note is that the cans were 280ml, whereas today's cans are 330ml. This one got emptied on site, but not these.....

1983 XV World Scout Jamboree in Kananaskis, Alberta

A full six-pack! I shouldn't say full - any Coke collector knows that even when unopened, the cans have a way of slowly leaking out.

A special thanks to my Mother-in-Law, first for giving these cans to me, and second, for bringing her son to the same Scout camp I was attending in my teen years!

If you have any Coca-Cola pictures, stories, or otherwise, please share them with us at http://www.allthingscola.com

Coca-Cola and Black History Month

In recognition of Black History Month, here are some commercials, and the commentaries about, that Coca-Cola has released in the past. When will Obama be in one, I wonder....

We all have some favourite commercials from the Super Bowls gone by, but a few of the Coca-Cola ads stand out in my mind. Here's a few of my picks:
